Picture from the ad campaign for A Tribute to Frida Kahlo collection. Women's Pret-a-porter 1998. Art direction and photography: Jean Paul Gaultier
When I think of Jean Paul Gaultier I immediately think of French sailors in minimal clothing and glamorous women clad in sexy underwear stroking perfume bottles, although though Le Male does smell pretty darn nice.
Obviously he is much more than that, with over 40 years working in the fashion industry Jean Paul Gaultier has created an array of stunning collections and has designed costumes for the likes of Kylie Minogue and Madonna - yes he was responsible for that cone bra from the Blond Ambition Tour! He's known for challenging gender stereotypes and the fact that he co presented Eurotrash makes me love him even more.
He's spoken previously of how London have always welcomed his designs, so what better way to celebrate this than a full on exhibition dedicated to him?! Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk is due to hit The Barbican art gallery on the 9th April and invites us to explore the fashion world of Jean Paul Gaultier. Over 140 of his iconic costumes will be on display (including the bra!) along with photography by Pierre et Gilles and Andy Warhol. There's also going to be video footage of concerts and catwalks to feast your eyes on.
You can buy tickets from £7.25-£14.50 from Hotel Direct which also gives a bit more info on the exhibition. Is this something you'd be interested in?
